Cal Thomas does it.  George Will too.  Sometimes, even Dick Armey has been the educated flea that flees his roots, along with a growing gaggle of weak-kneed conservatives, giving coddling reassurance to our cultural combat opponents.  Everyone on the left can sense rising choruses [chori?] of “Kumbaya” from the right.  The stampede is on to give the left a chance to declare a strategically-advantageous ‘hudna’ in this jihad they’ve invoked since January, 1929’s deposit of one-million-dollars [Austin Powers, we hear you] to trash the most popular president-elect in several generations.

This Kumbaya Chori includes such long-standing/now-sitting luminaries as Richard Viguerie, Frank Luntz, Andrew Breitbart, Joe Scarborough, Tucker Carlson, David Brooks, David Gergen, Bill O’Reilly and sometimes even Newt Himself.  They all have ‘gone highschool’: they desperately want to sit at the cool kids’ table in the cafeteria. And those Cool Kids are the lefties in Washington, D.C., New York and L.A. itself.

 The two Davids fall desperately short of King David for steadfastness on Lehrer News Hour: David Gergen long ago sought a seat at the Cool Kids’ table by joining the Clinton crowd, hoping to ‘inoculate’ himself against the charge of being in-the-tank for conservatives.  Ditto with Brooks’ frequent efforts, Tucker-like, to say and write often: Not me – I’m not all that wild-eyed a conservative, no sireee, no one here but us chickens.
 
After an on-air declaration of an end to partisanship, at least for his own advocacy role, Frank Luntz responded to an e-mail emphasizing to him that the problem isn’t ‘too much’ partisanship, but too little of critical competent expression of our own belief-centered partisanship, by our leaders and advocates.  His reply was brief and curt: I ain’t no stinkin’ partisan, not any more.  This persisting view is hinted in the introduction of his recent book, “Words That Work”: September 18, 2004 was the election-year date he “did a Dick” Morris” by giving his word-crafter’s secrets to a Brentwood gathering of two dozen lefties in Arianna Huffington’s home. He brushes off any question of his motivation with “frankly, I wanted to see the inside of Arianna’s house” – after declaring his cool-kid rationale as “what I do is fundamentally nonpartisan.”
 
Notably, WTW’s index lists eighteen entries for Reagan, only one for Thatcher, sixteen for Newt, and half that number for Aaron Sorkin!  JFK also scores eight, Churchill and Edmund Burke only two [as with Kafka], plus Brentwood hostess Arianna equaling a triple-citation in the introduction, and one in the body of the book.  Even Sergei Eisenstein gets a single mention, equivalent to Thatcher, and a single also for Sid Caesar.  Clearly Luntz has gone-Morris on us. Oh, maybe just a little.  But a little is way too much.

In the back-row of this chori is Bill O’Reilly, who frequently tries to soften his ‘conservative’ image and treat with the enemy, or the enema in many cases, most recently repeatedly declaring that “An Inconvenient Truth” is decently motivated, and that we should “all want a cleaner planet” by supporting the ex cathedra essence of Al Gore’s papacy.  Add Cal Thomas, now sidling up to Bob Beckel, plus Grover Norquist’s quest to ally with Arab Muslims as a GOP ‘counterbalance’ to the democrats’ dominance of the Jewish vote. [Memo to Grover: try reading the Koran, and open an office any Arab democracy, if you get my drift.]
 
All around us, many among the leaders of ‘us’ are eager to slip across the political DMZ and be snuggly with Them.  Here’s the Deal: IT WON’T WORK.  Not anything less than full conversion to all lefty theology will earn a ‘pass’ from their attack machine.  All the retreat by O’Reilly has earned him not one iota of ‘respect’ from the Cool Kids in journalism, academia or the democrat caucus.  Nor for Norquist, nor Cal.  The democrats’ strategery is for a political hudna– – the Islamic temporary-truce granted the infidel, only so long as it suits the Muslim advantage while in a weak position.
 
The hudna is declared null and void once the infidel is no longer holding the whip hand – when the whip switches, so does the behavior of the jihadists.  Democrats attack conservatism with a jihadist’s dedication – ask Herbert Hoover, Barry Goldwater, Richard Nixon, Newt Gingrich and a host since and in between those players’ times of trouble from jihadi democrats. That Luntz went roundheel in Brentwood is not new – Andrew Breitbart slams onetime movie mogul Bob Evans as a pedophile, in his book “Hollywood, Interrupted” – yet when given an introduction to Evans and a tour of that icon’s grand home, the changeover came swiftly.  
 
Revealing his new-found enthusiasm for Evans at a conservative soiree in the famed Formosa Café triggered my query about his conversion: Oh, he’s not so bad once you meet him, came Andrew’s reply, in February of ’05.  Not remarkable – Clinton’s charm of even many hostiles was legendary – many conservatives avoided any mano-a-mano meeting, for fear their resolve would dissolve in the oleaginous charms of the Charmer in Chief.  
 
After the Formosa conversion, Andrew tried a brief alliance with Arianna, finding her a shrewd practitioner of hudna: once her new website was launched, with his political capital contribution, its leftwing lean drove him to set up his own site.  As he might have earlier, but for entrusting himself to a Huffington hudna.
 
For Breitbart, his ‘surrender’ to Evans wasn’t so roundheeled as others cited: Evans declared himself as “the only Republican I know in Hollywood” to Chris Matthews at the height of the imbroglio over CBS’ “The Reagans” in November of ’03.  But here’s a news alert for all Kumbaya Chorists: IT WONT’ WORK.
 
Democrats’ may be stupid, but they ain’t dumb.  That million dollars in ’29 [when a million was big money] showed the depth of their resolve to trash Hoover – to “Hooverize” entered the lexicon, replacing the Finnish word “Hooveri” that meant good works [created by the Finns to honor his worldwide philanthropy].  Hoover was the giant contrasting with political pygmies on the left then, even now – not even Reagan has the astounding personal-story achievement of Hoover.  A long story for another time, Hoover was a “center of gravity” target of the leftwing, who was destroyed by the Depression.  But the DNC did not redirect that million to ‘good works’ of non-hostile intent.  They spent that pile o’ cash, and more, a piling-on of astounding dimension.
 
And the left ain’t relaxed since 1929.  Tip O’Neill made his ultimate ‘bones’ among DNC dudes as a needling challenger to Reagan.  Howard Dean is adored by the left, and is the official leader of the DNC [even if quietly so at present].  And Hillary will do more to undermine the rep of our representative icons than the Depression, and DNC’s million did to Hoover.
 
Crossing the DMZ earns no confidence by Them – ask Benedict Arnold, whose treachery earned him a British command, but he was never trusted by English society.  The Cool Kids don’t remotely offer a permanent seat at their table – it’s all a chimera, a hudna intended to get us to let our guard down.  They are the Taliban, this is a jihad in its merely latest chapter, going back to that 1929 deposit slip by the DNC.
 
Dick Morris betrayed his GOP associates in gaining millions in campaign advertising commissions as Clinton’s traitor-in-chief.  No one else has quite equaled his treachery, but there is an echo of that disturbing loud sound, in Cal Thomas’ affiliation with Beckel, and O’Reilly’s foolish seeking of softening his image.  No one on the left gives anything but pretense of bipartisanship. Just as they pretend to be National Security Liberals!
 
There is no non-partisan role for a serious player in this game we called politics, defined by the Forum as the process by which society decides WHO GETS WHAT, WHO PAYS FOR IT and WHO DECIDES.

They want Us to let Them rule, tax, spend and manipulate – that is their partisanship, and their partisanship extends to their every bone in their body politic. Our own warriors going Benedict Arnold is a bit of deja vu to Benedict Arnold Schwarzenegger’s growing string of betrayals.  Nancy Pelosi doesn’t want to be non-partisan.  Nor Beckel.  Nor Hillary.  The answer for us to pursue is to TRY HARDER, TO BE BETTER – at expressing our views, persuading the middle twenty percent, and win elections, to thus pursue our own partisan viewpoint of how the America Should Work.
 
No more Brentwood defections.  No more crossing the DMZ, even so mild as swooning upon meeting any “Bob Evans” in the political combat zone.  No more roundheels, no more giving-it-up to Them.  Keep your knees together, conservatives – your chastity intact, your heels locked in the full and upright position.
